Caralee shared her personal experiences with this issue, reflecting on her firm\u2019s journey to greater flexibility and control of their data with Clio, after 16 years on Leap. You can read more about her story <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clio.com\/au\/customers\/collective-family-law-group\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"976\" data-end=\"1046\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"620\" data-end=\"1050\">Adding weight to the discussion, Clio\u2019s latest insights in <strong data-start=\"1151\" data-end=\"1304\"><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clio.com\/au\/about\/press\/clio-reveals-australian-law-firms-face-data-lock-in-crisis\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1153\" data-end=\"1302\">The State of Legal Tech 2025: Data Insights Report<\/a><\/strong> sheds light on a troubling trend:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1343\" data-end=\"1783\">\n<li data-start=\"1343\" data-end=\"1467\">\n<p data-start=\"1345\" data-end=\"1467\"><strong data-start=\"1345\" data-end=\"1352\">71%<\/strong> of lawyers say their firm has experienced legal tech providers withholding or delaying access to their own data.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1468\" data-end=\"1574\">\n<p data-start=\"1470\" data-end=\"1574\">Some firms have been <strong data-start=\"1491\" data-end=\"1522\">forced to pay up to $25,000<\/strong> just to retrieve client files and case documents.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1575\" data-end=\"1676\">\n<p data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1676\"><strong data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1603\">Data extraction delays<\/strong> average four weeks, with <strong data-start=\"1629\" data-end=\"1636\">85%<\/strong> of firms waiting two weeks or longer.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1677\" data-end=\"1783\">\n<p data-start=\"1679\" data-end=\"1783\">Only <strong data-start=\"1684\" data-end=\"1691\">39%<\/strong> of lawyers believe they could easily export or migrate their documents to a new provider.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1785\" data-end=\"2084\">The findings reveal that more than <strong data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1892\">1 in 3 Australian law firms face $25,000+ fees and month-long delays<\/strong> simply to access their own data when switching providers.
