Being able to keep track of your Matters is crucial to your practice. Until recently, that wasn’t as easy to do if you were anywhere but your desk at your office. Imagine the flexibility you can gain by working on your Matters and reviewing information wherever you are. Or being able to accommodate a client’s schedule where you once would have had to wrangle them into the office.
That second point alone is worth paying attention to. How often has a client requested a meeting at a location other than your office? How often have you had to reschedule a meeting to another time or date because a client was unable to get to your office on time? What about high-profile or key clientele who are looking for the convenience of a lawyer willing to come to them?
Rather than bringing your legal pad and a pen, leaving your desktop at the office, you can very easily use our iOS application to do the heavy lifting for you. Simply put, rather than bringing extra materials, bring the one item you always have on you in addition to your keys and wallet: your phone. Let’s take a look at some of the features our iOS device has. (For those of you who use Android phones, have no fear! We’re hard at work on an app just for you. Believe me when I say the Training team is excited about it – most of us use Android phones ourselves.) Open Matters When you log into the Clio App you are directed to your Open Matters in Clio. What’s not handy about having quick and easy access to your open matters? There are options to view Pending and Closed Matters, as well, and by tapping the three circles to the right of each matter, you can easily perform some key tasks, such as adding some quick notes, tasks, time, or calendar events: Should you need to view more details about the matter during your meeting with the client, or with your coworkers, or perhaps even in the car while waiting for someone, the More button in a Matter will allow you to access that information:
Creating a new Matter
For those situations where you meet a potential new client while out picking up your kids or returning from a coffee run before heading back to the office, the app also has built-in functionality for creating a new Matter. All you have to do is tap on the “+” icon at the top of the Matter screen:
To add any information that isn’t shown by default, you can tap on “Choose Optional Fields” at the bottom of the screen to populate additional fields:
Having the ability to create a new Matter on the go can help prevent any potential loss of information or context that may occur if you have to wait to enter the information upon returning to the office. Capture what’s important right when you need it, without any fuss.
