According to the data, a significant number of firms are being charged excessive fees, facing long delays, and struggling to access their own documents when attempting to switch providers or negotiate better contracts.

The findings reveal:

  • 71% of lawyers say their firm faced withheld or delayed data when ending or renegotiating contracts.
  • Some firms paid an average of $24,861 (80% over $10,000) to retrieve client files.
  • Data extraction averages four weeks, with 85% reporting delays of two weeks or more.
  • Only 39% of lawyers believe documents could be easily exported to a new provider.
