Scaling for Tomorrow: How New Quadrant Modernised with Clio
Headquartered in London, New Quadrant is a private client law firm that has helped high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth UK and international families preserve and enhance their wealth through long-term planning since 2010. The firm specialises in wills, estate planning, and trust administration, and also provides fiduciary and family office services.
With a 25-person team and a strong focus on long-term relationships, New Quadrant needed a modern practice management solution to support both operational efficiency and the complexities of private client work. For Business and Project Manager Sjors Verhage, Clio offered not just a more intuitive alternative to their outdated legacy system, but a platform with the potential to evolve alongside the firm.
How Clio helped
Outdated legacy technology to modern cloud-based software
Before adopting Clio, the law firm relied on outdated, clunky software that was slowing them down and nearing the end of its useful life. Verhage was determined to find a modern, cloud-based system that could support the firm’s growth and evolving needs.
“It was very outdated, and we could already see it was taking out of use… Our main mission was to bring everything into the clouds.”

Powerful search functionality
Clio’s powerful search functionality makes it fast and easy to find any information within the firm.
“It was generally very hard to find stuff on the old system if you didn’t know where it was or didn’t have the specific document code. With Clio, that has greatly improved—we can just search for keywords or anything, any sentence that’s in a certain document.”

Streamlined compliance with custom fields
Clio’s custom fields feature has become an essential too, allowing the firm to store detailed information on clients, contacts, and matters in a flexible and accessible way. This capability helps the team identify gaps in compliance and AML risk more efficiently.
“I think the ability to store information on both clients and matters using custom fields is really powerful, and we use that a lot. It helps us identify gaps in AML or compliance risk. One of my personal favourites is the ability to bulk upload custom field entries and export reports, because that’s how I identify gaps and how I start identifying passport expiry dates.”

Manual drafting to streamlined document creation
New Quadrant regularly uses Clio’s document generation features to simplify the creation of standardised templates for repeatable documents like engagement letters. Using document templates helps reduce manual effort and ensure consistency across matters.
“We use the templates to generate documents quite a lot. It’s really handy—we do our engagement letters that way.”

Client portal for efficient document sharing
While the firm still relies heavily on email for most client communication, New Quadrant has started using Clio’s client portal, Clio for Clients, to securely share certain documents with select clients. Verhage sees potential for expanding its use—particularly if features like two-factor authentication and folder-based document sharing are added.
“For us, I think it’s really good. We use it solely for documents.”

Additional benefits to using Clio
A clear view of relationships and matters
Clio helps the team at the firm quickly understand the full context of a client’s legal affairs—showing the network of contacts, related matters, and key business details at a glance. This saves time and improves clarity, especially for fee earners managing multiple relationships.
“It saves time when looking up anything—just having a clear overview of what business you have on certain clients and related contacts. That kind of network around a contact is really strong.”

Integrations that open up new possibilities
With Clio’s open API and growing ecosystem of integrations, New Quadrant is actively exploring tools that could further enhance their operations. One example is WiseTime, a passive time-tracking app that may be particularly useful for the firm’s younger fee earners.
“What’s really strong about Clio is all the open API things you can integrate with. We’re looking at a lot of those at the moment.”

Clio has become one of two core systems powering New Quadrant’s operations, alongside SharePoint—and its role is only growing. The team is now actively partnering with Clio to improve workflows, enhance reporting, and potentially start using Clio Grow as part of their broader strategy.
Ultimately, for firms like New Quadrant seeking modernisation, scalability, and a partner that listens and grows alongside them, Clio isn’t just a tool—it’s a foundation for smarter growth and lasting success.
