Last time we covered creating Activity Descriptions that include ABA activity codes for easy formatting when exporting invoices in the LEDES format. Today, we’ll go over how to make use of Clio’s Text Snippets feature to include ABA codes when entering expenses.
If you’re not familiar with Text Snippets already, they are a time saver. They let you easily add shorthand codes for commonly used phrases or sentence. In other words, using Text Snippets means Clio auto populates the text for you when the short code is entered.
To start using Text Snippets, you need to configure them from within the Clio Settings page. To get there, simply click your name at the top of any Clio page, and choose ‘Settings’ from the drop down menu.
Under the Profile column in the middle of the page, click on ‘Text Snippets.’
Next up, set up the Text Snippets for your ABA activity codes. You can find the ABA Expense Codes listed on this page, in the section labelled ‘Expenses’.
When you’ve added your list of frequently used ABA Expense Codes, it should look like this:
Ensure the box labelled ‘Enable Text Snippets’ is checked prior to leaving the Text Snippets page.
Now, when creating your Expense Entries, simply enter the Text Snippet you had previously specified for the ABA Expense Entry in the ‘Note’ field of the Expense Entry. The Note will autopopulate with the correct expense code!
