Clio Brings Its Full Legal Technology Platform to Spain, Marking the Next Chapter in a 25-Year Legaltech Story Rooted in the Country

Clio Manage and Clio Work launch today in Spain, following the largest technology acquisition in Spanish history and a year of integrating vLex’s legal data legacy into a global AI platform

Clio, the global leader in legal AI, today launched its platform in Spain for the first time, introducing two products: Clio Manage and Clio Work. Together, they let a law firm handle both the running of its business and the actual practice of law in one system, replacing the mix of spreadsheets, paper files, and separate tools many firms rely on today. The launch caps a story that began 25 years ago in Spain, long before Clio ever entered the market.

That story starts with vLex. Over the past quarter century, the Barcelona-based company built one of the most comprehensive legal databases in the world from its base in Spain, compiling case law, legislation, and legal documents from dozens of countries into a single, searchable, verified source used by lawyers, courts, and legal researchers across the globe. Long before “legal AI” became an industry-wide conversation, vLex was already doing the harder, less visible work underneath it: building the trusted legal data that any credible legal AI would eventually depend on. Spain, through vLex, became one of the most important places in the world for that work.

Clio recognized the significance of what vLex had built. Last year, Clio acquired vLex in the largest technology acquisition in Spanish history, a US $1B deal that brought a global leader in legal practice software together with the company that had quietly built the data backbone for legal data and AI worldwide. Over the past six months, Clio and vLex have operated as one company, integrating vLex’s legal data foundation directly into Clio’s platform and investing back into the Spanish market to build toward this moment.

Clio Work is where lawyers do the legal work itself: drafting documents, researching case law, and preparing filings, built on vLex’s verified legal data.
