Clio Recruits Former Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack to Help Build the Future of Court Technology

Former Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice joins Clio to lead the company’s growth in the judiciary.

Clio, the global leader in legal AI, today announced that former Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack will join the company as General Manager, Judiciary, strengthening the leadership team behind Clio’s expansion into the courts. 

McCormack will lead the market and commercial strategy for Clio’s judiciary business, working alongside Pablo Arredondo, Senior Vice President, Judiciary, who is leading its product and strategic direction. Her appointment brings deep, direct, judicial experience to a market where technology adoption depends on a deep understanding of how courts operate, how decisions are made, and the standards technology must meet to earn institutional trust.

Courts across the United States are managing growing caseloads with limited resources, and every matter still requires careful consideration. McCormack saw that pressure firsthand during nearly a decade on the Michigan Supreme Court, including four years as Chief Justice, where she oversaw the state court system and championed efforts to modernize how courts serve the public. That experience has shaped her view of where AI can have the greatest impact.

“Courts have been operating under structural pressure for years, and technology now gives us a chance to rethink what support can look like,” said McCormack.

Building at the center of justice

McCormack’s hiring builds on Clio’s first step into the judiciary with the appointment of Pablo Arredondo as Senior Vice President, Judiciary, in August. With Pablo leading product and strategic direction, Clio is adding the market leadership needed to deepen its understanding of how courts operate, build the right relationships, and create a sustainable path into a complex and highly institutional market.

As General Manager, Judiciary, McCormack will lead Clio’s growth across courts, judicial officers, and dispute resolution organizational partners, bringing her experience and deep understanding of the justice system to how Clio builds and grows its judiciary business.

Clio enters the courts with significant scale and a broad legal foundation. Its acquisition of vLex added authoritative research, case law, dockets, and court records to a platform used by more than 400,000 legal professionals in over 130 countries, creating a strong foundation for serving courts, where the standards for trust, transparency, and reliability are paramount.

McCormack’s experience also brings a broader perspective to what comes next. Before joining the Michigan Supreme Court, she represented people who could not afford legal counsel and later helped establish the Michigan Innocence Clinic, the first non-DNA innocence clinic in the country; the Clinic exonerated 12 people during her 4 years leading it. Her leadership on the bench focused on improving processes and using technology to address court capacity, access to justice, and the public’s experience of the legal system.
