Clio Wins 2021 Data Breakthrough Award

2021 Data Breakthrough Awards

Legal tech company recognized for data-driven approach to transforming the legal experience for all

VANCOUVER, BC, March 26, 2021 Clio, the leader in cloud-based legal technology, has been named the winner of the Data Breakthrough Awards 2021 Data Solution of the Year in the Legal category for the first time. The recognition highlights Clio’s investment in providing data-driven insights and solutions that have transformed law firm management and growth, helped legal professionals understand trends impacting the industry, and provided knowledge, tools, and financial assistance to professionals severely impacted by the pandemic. The Data Breakthrough Awards honor excellence and recognize the creativity, hard work, and success of data companies, technologies, and products.

With the mission of transforming the legal experience for all, including lawyers, industry groups, clients, and consumers, Clio takes a data-driven approach to creating meaningful change in legal practices and organizations. With Clio, legal professionals don’t need to be experts in data analysis to get insights to run a more successful practice.

“At Clio, we focus on creating products that give lawyers and legal professionals the insights they need to understand their firm’s profitability and how they can improve productivity, efficiency, and revenue,” said Jack Newton, CEO and Co-founder of Clio. “These critical data insights are key to helping law firms understand their practices on a deeper level, which in turn enable opportunities for innovating more seamless and accessible legal services for clients.”

As part of those efforts, Clio publishes an annual Legal Trends Report to help lawyers make better business decisions. This past report analyzed the anonymous and aggregated data of tens of thousands of legal professionals using Clio, combined with the results from an ongoing seven month long survey of  lawyers and individuals consuming legal services over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. Available for free, the report creates a baseline understanding of what legal clients want, and what key performance metrics, tactics, and software solutions the most successful firms are employing to survive.

When the pandemic escalated in March 2020, Clio recognized that the industry would need even more in-depth research to provide insights into macroeconomic trends impacting US legal professionals during COVID-19. That’s why the company launched the COVID-19 Impact Research Briefings, a new data reporting framework that allowed Clio to provide the industry with live insights on new matter volume by state, practice area, monthly billing volumes, and more. As part of this research, the company built an interactive webpage outlining the findings, and hosted briefings with bar leaders to enable them to better help their members.

Beyond research on the pandemic’s impact on the legal industry, Clio also launched a $1 million COVID-19 Legal Relief Initiative to help provide educational resources, free and discounted software, and direct financial assistance to help firms navigate the difficulties brought on by the pandemic. Through the ongoing initiative, Clio was able to support over 1,000 law firms financially while providing additional resources to several other firms. This support tied directly into the company’s mission of building cloud-based and client-centered technology to transform the legal experience for all.

Technological advances in Clio’s software platforms, including Clio Manage and Clio Grow, were also part of the company’s breakthrough contributions to the legal community. Clio Manage gives firms valuable insights critical to business success, including how many billable hours have been captured, billed, and collected. Clio Grow provides lawyers with insights on the most profitable practice areas, matter types, clients, top-performing firm members, referral sources, and client types to improve the firm’s overall profitability. These platforms are supplemented by the Law Firm Insights Dashboard, which provides additional information on metrics like utilization, realization, and collection rates.

This award adds to the impressive list of recognitions Clio has received in recent months including being named to Fast Company’s annual list of the Most Innovative Companies.
