    The Difference We Made

As applications came in—over 1,300 in total—we identified key needs that the larger legal community could benefit from and launched aid programs accordingly, which were open to all legal professionals from March 2020 to August 2021.

We’re delighted to report that the focus of our humble initiative has been met. Below, you can learn more about the resources and projects Clio led to support the legal community.

  • Our Ongoing Commitment to You

We thank all of our dedicated customers, staff, and partner organizations for supporting us in committing $1.1 million USD to those in our community who needed a helping hand during the pandemic.

No matter what kind of law you practice, you provide an essential service to our global community. We want to ensure that whatever barriers you’re facing during this time, you’re able to continue to provide that service while taking responsible, precautionary measures to keep yourself and your communities safe.

Though this initiative is closed, get in touch with us if you or someone you know in the legal community still requires support.

  • Direct Financial Aid, Gifted Legal Technology, and Quick Onboarding to the Cloud

Instead of going back to normal, we want to build a better normal. Being in unprecedented times, we knew the lawyers so many Americans and people around the world rely on weren’t prepared to navigate COVID-19 from a practice standpoint.

We heard from firms directly: they were having to make some difficult prioritization decisions. Which is why we offered free and discounted software, and direct financial assistance to help alleviate some of that stress.

Many firms were moving to the cloud for the first time, and to make that easier, we launched a Quick Start Onboarding Program to meet the demands of those looking to get up-and-running on Clio quickly. In under four hours, legal professionals could learn how to organize and track cases, manage billing, collect payments, and collaborate with clients—all from Clio Manage. The program consisted of five 30-minute virtual training sessions each with a 15-minute Q&A period.

  • Educational Resources

With the legal industry facing never-before-seen challenges, we invested in creating new research that identified the many impacts COVID-19 had on law firms through our COVID-19 Impact Research Briefings.

We also launched a Work From Home Resource hub with relevant guides and information to help legal professionals and their communities navigate the challenges COVID-19 presented. These helpful and convenient work-from-home resources are still highly beneficial for those continuing to work virtually—particularly the comprehensive guide to working remotely.

Additional resources from various mediums were shared, including more than 100 compelling episodes of our Daily Matters PodcastAs we see the world venture closer to normal each day, it’s more important than ever lawyers put their clients first. Consequently, the new season of Matters is all about client-centred approaches to law.

    CARES Act Application Support

We launched the CARES Act Support Hotline to help legal professionals better understand and apply for government support and financial aid. Legal professionals seeking support on their applications to stimulus programs like the CARES Act were encouraged to call during working hours for in-person support. We also hosted workshops on applying for funds under the CARES Act, co-hosted with CPN Legal.

  • Professional Services Sessions

We worked with experts across a variety of professional service fields to host workshops aimed at helping lawyers navigate these challenging times as business owners. Legal professionals could register and get advice on topics such as cash flow management, budgeting, and government funding programs available to law firms.

  • Non-profit and Bar Association Support

We worked with a variety of nonprofits and legal organizations serving the underrepresented. Many bar associations stepped up to help us create guides for business continuity, design educational resources, create access to justice, and make cloud-based legal practice solutions available to their members.

Most notably, we partnered with the American Bar Association (ABA), Paladin, and LegalZoom to launch the ABA’s pro bono portal, connecting attorneys with free opportunities and also partnered with the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) to launch an unemployment insurance relief program to assist New Yorkers with unemployment benefits and appeal denials.
