As a lawyer, the work you do matters. As we move forward in 2019, we’re building momentum with the solutions we provide to make it easier to do what you do, with a goal of transforming the practice of law, for good.

To round out the first month of the year, there are a slew of product updates to share (including one big announcement)—plus the introduction of 24/5 support and the launch of Clio’s new podcast.

But before we get to that, let’s start by reflecting on all that you’ve accomplished over the past year.

Why lawyers matter

In 2018 the legal profession was more important than ever.

We’re inspired by Clio-using lawyers like yourself, who drive change for their communities, clients, and society as a whole. We want to celebrate all your achievements and get you inspired to do more for your clients in 2019.

The Clio Referral Network

Referring clients to other lawyers—and ensuring you’re available for referrals—is a great example of a small change that can drive a huge impact for your business, reputation, and clients.

According to the Legal Trends Report, 62% of consumers ask friends and family for recommendations when they’re looking to hire a lawyer—so we know referrals are critical to the growth of any law firm.

The Clio Referral Network is a community of legal professionals who use Clio and refer cases to each other. Join the Referral Network and find high-quality lawyers when you’re at capacity or can’t take on a case due to a conflict. Search by year of call to the bar, location, legal expertise, and more.

The more clients you refer, the more likely you are to get referrals in return. So join a community of your peers and thrive together in 2019.

New Contact detail page

When you look up a Contact in Clio, you might notice that things look a little different.

Now, the most important information for a contact is easy to find at the top of a page, including an email, phone number, and address.

Other improvements include:
  • Create a new contact, whether a person or a company, from the Contact option in the Global Create menu. It’s also easy to toggle between creating a person and a company—no more deleting contacts and starting over!
  • Add prefixes as an open text field, in case you’d like to include a prefix that’s not standard.
  • Add middle names for their Contacts without needing to use custom fields. This will function with existing Office 365 and Gmail Plugin Contact syncs.
  • First and last name are now required to avoid contact confusion.

In short, there’s less searching for contact information, so you can focus on what matters in your day.

Custom Actions

Custom Actions provide a new way for legal professionals to save time by launching third-party apps directly from the Clio interface—while simultaneously passing specific Document, Contact, Activity, or Matter information to the integration as it launches.

Here are a few examples of Custom Actions available now:

LegalBoards

Add a matter to Legalboards straight from Clio! Once you choose the board, you’ll be directed straight to Legalboards.

CaseMail

Send documents via Print to Mail, e-signature, or Service by Mail! You’ll also be able to use Custom Actions to track different types of documents.

YoCierge

Clio users can now use Custom Actions to “Order Records” related to Clio Matters. When clicked, YoCierge will automatically start the ordering process for your medical and other records that are needed to win your lawsuits, saving you valuable time.

Client Satisfaction Pilot Program

In the digital age, word of mouth still counts for a lot. Collecting client feedback is a key piece to enabling Law firms to close the feedback loop, and understand how they can provide a superior legal service that allows them to stay top-of-mind.

According to BTI research, law firms that invest client relationships experience see:

  • 30% higher profits
  • 2x the fees from a single client
  • 35% higher client retention

Despite this, many law firms don’t consistently collect feedback to see whether their clients would recommend them—37% of customers surveyed in the 2018 Legal trends Report don’t regularly collect feedback from customers and 42% collect it only casually. That means many firms are missing out on opportunities to drive more referrals.

To help make it easier to collect feedback, we’re launching a Client Satisfaction Pilot Program.

If you’re interested in using Clio to collect more client feedback, more consistently, sign up to be one of the first to try an exciting new trial feature in Clio that makes it simple. You’ll be able to easily collect, review, and monitor client feedback for all your cases, enabling you to make informed decisions and level-up your client service.

Note: Feature available to North American users only. You must be an account administrator to enable and use the feature.

Enhanced Clio Payments’ Payment Page

Do your clients often want to pay multiple invoices at once? You can now accept payment for multiple invoices owed in a single transaction using the enhanced Clio Payments Page. Here’s how it works:

  1. Your firm can access the enhanced Clio Payments’ page when sharing a bill via email. You have the option to check the box “Accept payment up to the total of all invoices”.
  2. When this is selected, your bill will be shared with your clients via email (per your typical workflow), and a link to the enhanced Clio Payments’ page will be attached via the “Pay Online Now” button.
  3. Payments submitted by clients will be applied automatically from the oldest invoice to the newest invoice (First in first out). Accepted payments methods (credit card only), and transaction fees are the same as those offered by Clio Payments.

This new functionality eliminates the need for your firm to request multiple payments from clients with more than one outstanding invoices.

What’s more, Clio will automatically apply funds to outstanding invoices, and update transaction status in your Clio Payments’ transaction table—saving time for both your and your clients.

All Clio users on Boutique and Elite plans, based in the US and Canada that have Clio Payments enabled, will have access to this enhanced Clio Payments page.

24/5 support

We’re excited to announce that we’ve expanded our award-winning customer support. Our knowledgeable, friendly support team is now available 24/5—that’s all-day and all-night from 12:00 a.m. Monday to midnight on Friday—to serve you by phone, email, or live chat.

We know your day doesn’t always end at a reasonable hour, and that’s why we’re here when you need us.

Note:  Live chat is currently available between 5 a.m. to 12 a.m. PT.

That’s it for this month! Here’s to a successful 2019.
