Former Football Star Brian Banks to Share Powerful Story of Wrongful Conviction as 2023 ClioCon Keynote Speaker

With over 80% of passes already sold out, excitement continues to grow for the 11th annual conference

Clio, the world’s leading provider of cloud-based legal technology, today announced that Brian Banks, a former football player turned keynote speaker and life coach, will share his powerful story of his wrongful conviction and eventual exoneration as a keynote speaker at the 2023 Clio Cloud Conference, taking place in Nashville, Tennessee from October 9-10, 2023.

Born in Long Beach, California in 1985, Banks was recruited to play football for the University of Southern California (USC) before his life took a drastic turn. At the age of 16, he was tried and convicted of a crime he did not commit. He was exonerated 10 years later, with the help of the California Innocence Project. His story was adapted to film in the 2019 feature movie, Brian Banks.

Having endured a wrongful conviction and imprisonment for a crime he did not commit, Banks has become well-versed in issues surrounding wrongful convictions and criminal justice reform. He speaks and writes often on these topics to inspire change among individuals and across the justice system.

“An estimated one percent of the U.S. prison population—that’s approximately 20,000 people—have been falsely convicted and imprisoned for crimes they did not commit,” said Jack Newton, CEO and Founder of Clio. “It’s critical for legal professionals to understand the flaws in our current justice system to better serve clients and improve access to justice for all. That’s why we’re honored to welcome Brian to the ClioCon stage. With his powerful first-hand experience, Brian will share his inspiring story with the ClioCon audience and raise awareness of the impact of wrongful convictions, criminal justice reform, and overcoming adversity to effect change.”

In his much anticipated and interactive ClioCon session, Banks will share his compelling story and lessons learned. Attendees can expect an in-depth discussion on wrongful convictions and how flaws in today’s justice system lead to the imprisonment of thousands of innocent people––and the critical role that legal professionals play in reforming the criminal justice system.

Banks will also share his story of overcoming adversity and will empower attendees to overcome their own obstacles to achieve their full potential. An inspirational and dynamic speaker, Banks’ keynote session is a must-attend for legal professionals and will leave attendees feeling empowered, motivated, and inspired to enact change and improve access to justice for all.

“As the largest legal conference in North America, ClioCon has established a reputation as a must-attend event for legal professionals looking to succeed personally and professionally,” said Newton. “With world-renowned speakers like Brian sharing their stories, knowledge, and insights, legal professionals will gain renewed perspectives to better navigate their practices and the justice system.”

Packed with inspiring keynote sessions and hands-on workshops, ClioCon has become the legal industry’s premier event, and the 11th annual event this October will be the best year yet. Mel Robbins and Banks are confirmed as keynote speakers, with the final keynote to be announced in the coming months.
